The New Year – Changing Ourselves to Change Our World

It’s just too big, or so we assume. Or conversely, we’re just too small. In embracing either of these deceptive thoughts we wholly negate our ability to be game-changers in a world that sorely needs some serious game-changing. We need not be relegated to the side-lines of irrelevancy. We are here for a purpose. We do bring unique gifts, talents … [Read more...]

Summer – Stars and Meadows

We live in boxes. Tight, well-defined and thick boxes. And in time the whole of our existence becomes defined by the singular boxes that we live in. Because it becomes increasingly difficult to see what’s outside of the boxes within which we live, we lose a sense of what’s outside the box. And in time, we forget that there is anything out there at … [Read more...]

Success – Defining it Defines You

We all yearn to be successful. It may be that a feeling of success gives our life a sense of meaning, purpose, value and ultimately direction. Success means that our lives count for something more than simply being carbon-based life forms living out some pathetic existence on our way to the grave. But to know if we’re successful we have to have … [Read more...]

Spring Cleaning – Never Even Looking at the House

We seem to prefer superficial realities; those kinds of tidying behaviors that keep things amply clean and sufficiently arranged. It’s often more about presentation than substance. We tend to spit-shine the thin veneers and bring them to a lustrous polish so that whatever’s underneath them is assumed to be just as lustrous. Yet, we all need a … [Read more...]

Shep – To Run with a Limp

We all walk with a limp. Every one of us. Our limps vary dramatically, from the obvious physical limps to the more emotional ones. Most of us are ashamed of our limps and we therefore work vigorously to hide them. And when they are so utterly obvious that we can’t hide them, we often run from them even though such an action is obviously … [Read more...]

Self-Image – What’s Yours?

We all have a view of ourselves that’s pretty well defined and often not all that flattering. And we seem to spend a good deal of our lives shaping and trimming and honing and adjusting that self-image to enhance its appeal to others and to ourselves. Yet, such enhancements, despite the rigorous nature of them, never seem quite sufficient. This … [Read more...]

Seasons – The Come and Go of Life

In the come and go of life we’re more apt to embrace what’s coming than to release what’s going. There is something in the accumulation of things that enhances our sense of security and stability as we ever further immerse ourselves in the soothing wrap of them. Conversely, releasing things sometimes has a stripping sensation where we’re becoming … [Read more...]

When is Counseling Needed?

Life comes with unanticipated twists and turns that can leave us confused, hurt, and frequently disoriented. Professional counseling can help with finding ways to deal with these issues.
