Uniqueness – Not as License

In a culture that advocates for a broad array of freedoms, we sometimes struggle with understanding the appropriate parameters for the exercise of those freedoms. When we are presented with something new that we wish to explore, we may have a difficult time understanding how far we can explore this thing without impeding on the rights of others and doing harm to ourselves in the process.

When it comes to uniqueness, sometimes we feel that since our uniqueness is part of who we are, that uniqueness should be given full and free expression. And yet sometimes that expression is not balanced by wisdom and astutely guided by the realities of the culture around us. Too often we become guided by a sense of license in our expressions verses a sense of liberty. And the two of these guiding principles shape the expression of our uniqueness in very different ways.
