Loving Our Enemies – Seeing Ourselves in Our Response

It may be that our actions say more about us than just about anything else that we do. Our actions decisively reveal many things about us that are otherwise hidden behind a thin façade of congeniality, the silken veil of social courtesies, and other appropriate behaviors that lend us an air of refinement and chivalry. Yet, we rarely look at our actions as a means of understanding the deeper things that otherwise remain hidden.

One of the real tests of who we are is our willingness to love our enemies. That action, or the lack thereof, reveals volumes about us. Such an apparently contradictory action where ‘who we are’ clashes with ‘who we should be’ sets the stage for our true character to emerge. And so, when it comes to forgiving those who offend us the most, we might ask what our choice reveals about us.
